- In its first stage, the ISA subsidiary completed the expansion of the Nueva Pan de Azúcar substation in Coquimbo for the connection of new transmission projects.
- During the last quarter of this year, the second stage, corresponding to the expansion of the Nueva Maitencillo substation in Freirina, will be completed
The energy company ISA INTERCHILE achieved a new milestone by completing the expansion works at the Nueva Pan de Azúcar Electrical Substation belonging to the National Electric System, which will allow other transmission projects to be connected to the 220kV system.
The expansion of Nueva Pan de Azúcar translates into the installation of central cut-off switches and GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) bar extensions in a shed specially enabled to receive the connection of new transmission projects in the framework of the Transmission Expansion Plan.
Luis Alejandro Zapata, Projects Manager of ISA INTERCHILE, explains that “transmission plays a critical role in achieving decarbonization goals. One way to continue contributing to the increase of renewable sources is by expanding and strengthening the National Electric System. The expansion in Nueva Pan de Azúcar and later in Nueva Maitencillo will be essential for other transmission projects to connect to Cardones-Polpaico and generate a great circuit at the height of the energy challenges that Chile will face in the coming years.”
In addition to Nueva Pan de Azúcar, ISA’s subsidiary is progressing in the expansion of the Nueva Maitencillo substation located in Freirina, Atacama region, which will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2021. Both works represent an approximate investment of US$ 3.7 million each.
