It’s about the Chilean Committee of the Regional Energy Integration Commission, which corresponds to the Chilean chapter of CIER – an international organization that promotes energy integration in the American region.
As Interchile, we have driven the activation of this committee in our country, achieving the commitment of participation from the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) and the National Energy Commission (CNE).

What is CIER?
It is a non-profit organization headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay. Each member country is represented by a National Committee, and in Central America – the Caribbean – by a Regional Committee. Currently, Chile does not participate in CIER, and we have been working to establish this committee, which we hope will happen by the end of October this year.
What role has Interchile played through your efforts?
Interchile’s role has been that of a key facilitator in promoting the activation of the Chilean Committee of CIER. We have supported the organization of two very important webinars on cybersecurity and asset management, promoted and positioned CIER in various public and private spaces, and provided legal support for the creation of this new committee in Chile.
To date, we have already secured the commitment of participation in CHICIER from the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) and the National Energy Commission (CNE), and as ISA Interchile, we will be one of the founding members of this committee.
Why is it important for us to get involved with this commission?
CIER is a very relevant organization for developing capacities and improvements in management within the energy sector. CIER conducts an in-depth study on management and performance in the energy sector known as the “CIER Benchmarking” study, which identifies critical aspects for improvement in the management and performance of companies in generation, transmission, and distribution, in key areas such as cost management, operational performance, cybersecurity, strategy, planning, among other crucial aspects.
Additionally, CIER has a consistent vocation with ISA’s purpose, which is regional energy integration. Integrating the continent energetically and having electrical grids that allow energy exchange between countries is not just a technical challenge but also regulatory and public policy, as well as building trust and social capital. In this, CIER’s role is fundamental.
What capabilities of Interchile have we put to the test in this process?
Networking and adaptability have been crucial, as this work with CIER has been a team effort within Interchile. Starting with our General Manager Luis Llano, who has supported us from the beginning in this challenge. Also, the Operations and Maintenance team, who have supported us with technical discussions, the asset management team, cybersecurity team, and certainly the public affairs team, who have driven this issue due to its relevance to Interchile and, above all, to the public policy of decarbonizing the country’s energy matrix.
On October 19 and 20, we will hold a major conference at the ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile, where we will engage with key players in the energy world: generation, transmission, distribution companies, developers of renewable energy projects, green hydrogen, with authorities from the National Electric Coordinator, and with government representatives: Ministry of Energy, SEC, CNE, and representatives from academia. It will be the major energy event of this second semester. We will later inform you about how you can participate.
“It is important that we support the development of these instances because, just as Interchile, we engage with key actors in the environment, position our issues, and achieve recognition, reputation, and visibility that allows us to continue growing in our business,” Mauricio concluded.
